Fire, EMS Grants Awarded to Support First Responders

State Rep. Joseph Kerwin | Pennsylvania 125th Legislative District

Almost $250,000 in grant money has been awarded to fire companies and emergency medical services in the 125th District. The grants will support various needs such as building projects, equipment purchase or repair, training, and debt reduction. This information was provided by the Office of Rep. Joe Kerwin (R-Dauphin).

The Fire and Emergency Medical Services Grant Program, which is administered by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and Office of the State Fire Commissioner, distributed the funds. The money comes from the proceeds generated by slot machine gaming.

Representative Joseph Kerwin expressed his support for the recipients, stating, "These grants will go a long way in assisting our local fire companies and emergency medical services in their vital work. We are grateful for their dedication and commitment to keeping our communities safe."

The grant recipients in the 125th District include Berrysburg & Community Fire Co., Community LifeTeam, Dauphin Middle Paxton Fire Co. No. 1, Fisherville Volunteer Fire Co., Gratz Area Fire Co., Halifax Area Ambulance & Rescue Association, Halifax Fire Department, Liberty Hose Co. 1, Liberty Hose Co. 2, Linglestown Fire Co. No. 1, Millersburg Fire Co. 1, Paxtonia Fire Co., Pillow Fire Co., Reliance Hose Co. 1, West Hanover Township Fire Co. 1, and Wiconisco Fire Engine Co. No. 1. Each organization received a specific amount of funding, ranging from $10,000 to $16,951.

These grants will enable the recipients to enhance their capabilities and better serve their communities. The funds can be used for a variety of purposes, such as upgrading equipment, renovating facilities, and providing training for firefighters and emergency medical personnel.

Fire Chief John Smith of Berrysburg & Community Fire Co. expressed his gratitude for the grant, saying, "This funding will allow us to replace outdated equipment and ensure that our firefighters have the tools they need to respond effectively to emergencies. We are thankful for the support from the Fire and Emergency Medical Services Grant Program."

The grants serve as a reminder of the importance of supporting first responders and the critical role they play in ensuring public safety.
